Q: I purchased a book online. I had to drop the class that I bought the book for. How long do I have to return the book for a full refund? Can I go down to Sinclair and return or do I have to mail it back?
A: All required course materials purchased from the date the department opens for the quarter must be returned within 14 days of the first day of the quarter. Returns after that time will be accepted within 30 days of the first day of classes with a drop/add slip. Course materials purchased any other time must be returned within 7 days of purchase. All required and optional course materials purchased for mini-term classes must be returned within 7 days of classes with a drop/add slip. You can always bring the books into our store or you can mail them back to us with a note explaining the reason for the return to Sinclair Bookstore 444 W Third St, Dayton, Ohio 45402. The postmark must be within the time frame allowed for returns.
Q: If the books were purchased online, is the order detail print-out considered a receipt for returning the books?
A: No. The confirmation detail only shows what you ordered, and due to the change in availability of new and used books, duplicate item orders, and out-of-stock items it may be inaccurate. A receipt will be provided with your shipment when it is sent to you. That is what you need for any returns.
Q: I'd like to know if your bookstore has gift certificates or cards that we could purchase to help our son/daughter buy the books and supplies they will be needing.
A: Yes. We have gift cards that may be purchased for any amount at our Customer Service Counter. They are good for any item in our store. If you need to get a card but do not live nearby, you can call the Web Order group at 937-512-4070 (Mon-Fri, 8:30a.m.until 4:30p.m.) and we can take your order over the phone.
Please note that shipping charges will apply on all orders sent out to you.
Q: I went through the quote procedure on your website, and am preparing to send you some used textbooks for buyback. What options do I have for receiving payment?
A: All returns mailed to the bookstore using the online buy-back guarantee quote system are paid with a check issued directly to you.
Q: One of the books I am mailing back, Modern Management, has some yellow highlighted markings in it. Otherwise, it is in excellent shape. Is this acceptable for buyback?
A: Since used books are the most popular form requested, we understand some wear and tear, and markups will occur. As long as it is not excessive or makes the book unreadable, we can accept a limited amount. We do, however, reserve the right to reject any book we receive that does not meet our standards. Any book that fails to meet the standards, and any items not listed on the quote, will be shipped back to you at your expense, which will be taken from the buy-back quoted price.
Q: I reserved the book at the main campus. Is there anything that I need to bring with me when I come to pick it up?
A: You will need to bring your Tartan Card to identify yourself.
Q: I have reserved an order to pick up for next quarter. The order status says shipped. I didn’t know if it says that when it is a pickup also or if it has been shipped for some reason.
A: Our system shows ‘shipped’ when there is sufficient stock on hand to satisfy the order and it is ready to process. If you choose the shipping option to pick-up at one of our campuses, that is where we will ship it for you to pick up.
Q: I was wondering how long you can use the book credit from financial aid. I had $500, but only spent about $380. It is not showing on my card, how do I use it online or can I?
A: Financial Aid awards will be available for 10 days before the quarter begins and end on the 8th day of the quarter, which is the last day to drop with a 100% refund.
Q: Is there anything that I need to do before placing my order online when paying by Financial Aid?
A: Yes. When ordering online you will be able choose financial aid as a payment option during that period. Sorry, but Financial Aid balances do not show on your Tartan card. You will need to call 937-512-3000, option 1. Someone will be able to assist you with that information. It is recommended that you do this before placing your order online so that if your order exceeds your allotted funds, you will know to select another method of payment for the remaining amount due. Your tartan card is also needed. Your tartan card number must be entered into the box when you chose Financial Aid as your method of payment. These steps will help with the efficiency of your order.
Q: I'm wondering why I only got one book (Contacts). The book list said that both books were required for COM 206.
A: Sometimes, a text is available in several styles (new, used, or as a package) Therefore it may get listed more than once on the class list. If you order both a new/used and a packaged version of the text, we remove the duplicate item for you (normally deferring to your ‘used’ choice.) Depending on your method of payment that fact may be reflected on your receipt. Call us if you have any questions with your order.
Q: I'm wondering why I can't select a quantity for a book that I am trying to order for my course.
A: Sorry, but the book for that course is currently out of stock. Please check back at a later date to see if the book comes available.
Q: Is there any way you can provide prices for the new books I need?
A: You can use our site to create a book list by choosing the books you need as if you were going to purchase them through the site. You can then print the list from the ‘My cart’ link and see the total for the books. Note this total does not include sales tax (currently 7%) or shipping costs.
Q: If I order my books on-line, what method do you use to ship?
A: We use the US Postal Service and UPS for shipping. Orders under $150 are shipped USPS, while orders over $150 are shipped UPS.
Q: Do you give tracking numbers for orders?
A: Yes. An e-mail is sent when the order is shipped which will show the tracking numbers for your order.
Q: Do you have to be a current student to get the Microsoft Office discount?
A: Yes. You must be a currently registered student to purchase any software at the Sinclair Bookstore or online.
Q: How do I get information from the bookstore on my order?
